New College of Florida Faculty Support Fund

Being a faculty member at an honors college is a high pressure, extremely difficult but typically rewarding job.  However, this job has recently been made more difficult for the faculty of New College of Florida with the leadership and policy changes making headlines nation wide.  This has led to nearly a third of faculty choosing to leave and immense pressure and constant uncertainty being faced by those who have remained.

For the faculty who remain, they face intense ongoing challenges that are well known causes of burnout.  In an effort to support these faculty, Dragonfly Mental Health is aiming to fundraise $3000 to support the immediate launch of several evidence-based interventions and develop a direct relationship with NCF faculty.  We specialize in delivering customized mental health literacy talks, facilitated discussions, fully tailored skills workshops and community consulting.

Indicate your support for this program by putting "New College of Florida" or "NCF" in the donation comments. Please leave a note or comment as well so the NCF faculty know why you are supporting them!

Immediate Support for NCF Faculty:

Faculty Peer Network Consulting -

  • Peer Networks are peer-run groups that build a sense of community
  • No one understands the unique challenges of faculty like peers in the same position. Establishment of peer mental health networks result in sustainable peer-led organizations that can identify and address unmet needs, serve as an organized voice for concerns, and promote preventative mental health practices and support among peers

Basics of Burnout Mental Health Literacy Seminar and Facilitated Discussion -

  • Defines the core components of burnout including evidence-based strategies to treat symptoms and how to prevent work-related stress

Practical Tools for Dealing with Burnout Skills Workshop -

  • Provides concrete evidence-based strategies that faculty can employ to support themselves, their colleagues, and students

Imagine the positive impact on the faculty when they hear that alumni are supporting them!

Dragonfly Mental Health will be seeking matching funding from local community foundations, doubling the impact of each individual donation.

Academia has the second highest rate of sexual harassment of any professional industry (Ilies et al. 2003).

We are creating a new program which will change the culture that leads to sexual harassment in collaboration with Dr. Lisa Gunaydin, a behavioral neuroscientist and expert on the topic.  Donate to help us fund the creation and delivery of this program.

      No means no pin picture

Sexual harassment has no place in academia. Let's make that true.

      This talk includes:

      • Defining sexual harassment, e.g. gender-based microaggressions, jokes, unwanted advances, non-verbal hostile behaviors
      • Discussing examples of sexual harassment in academia
      • Tools for how to move from being a bystander to an ally
      • Learning trauma-informed approaches to supporting survivors
      • Guided community discussion on implementation of systemic changes to prevent future harassment
